Kids Studio Class Descriptions

 

GROWN-UP & ME

A class that honors our heart and mission. We explore creativity + movement through improv, creative exercises, and artful projects that teach the connection of mind, body, spirit, and story.

MUSIC & MOVEMENT

A class that introduces the fundamentals for music and movement. This is the perfect class to introduce littles to a social class setting while exploring rhythm, counting, musical instruments, and movement.


BALLET

A style of dance that uses precision and highly formalized steps and methods. This style of dance teaches the fundamentals of all other dance styles and is a required class for our performance teams.

CONTEMPORARY

A style of dance that combines elements of modern, lyrical, and jazz styles in a fluid and expressive movement quality. This style of dance welcomes a connection of mind and body through storytelling.


JAZZ

A style of dance that builds on the fundamental techniques of ballet using dynamic movement quality. Jazz is a high energy, expressive style that utilizes leaps, turns and athleticism to heighten performance execution.

TAP

A style of dance that uses rhythmic variations to tap out audible sounds using the toe and heel while wearing tap shoes. Musicality and rhythm are especially emphasized in this style of dance.


MUSICAL THEATRE

A style of dance that is theatrical in nature. This style of dance combines song, theatre, and dance while commonly utilizing elements of other genres such as ballet, jazz and tap.

LYRICAL

A style of dance that combines ballet and jazz dance techniques with an emphasis on the poetic lyrics of a song, hence the term β€œlyrical”. This movement style explores the expression of spontaneous feelings and deep emotion.


HIP-HOP

A style of dance that encompasses a wide range of street dance styles. Hip-hop is largely improvisational by nature - involving different contracting and relaxing movements.

ACRO

Acro combines skills in both dance and gymnastics. Classes focus on developing strength, flexibility, balance, coordination, concentration, muscle control, and discipline. Dancers study acrobatic techniques and explore how these techniques can be applied to other forms of dance.


PRE-POINTE

Focuses on strengthening exercises for the feet and ankles, conditioning range of motion, and working on proper alignment for pointe. Dancers must be enrolled in Ballet IV in order to take Pre-Pointe.

POINTE

Focuses on strengthening exercises for the feet and ankles, conditioning range of motion, and working on proper alignment for pointe. Dancers must be enrolled in Ballet V in order to take Pointe.


POM

A high-energy style of dance that combines jazz technique, sharp movements, with the use of pom props. Pom builds confidence, coordination, and precision while developing strong musicality and performancea presence.

POM TECHNIQUE

A technique class for growing dancers that focuses on strengthening, stretching, leaps and turns.
